The Naples Daily News is running a 3 part investigative report this week. The series is titled Ave Maria - A Town Without a Vote .
It seems when legislation creating the new town surrounding Catholic Ave Maria University was enacted, the same legislation contained some highly unusual provisions that gave permanent control of the town to the town's founder, former Domino Pizza owner Tom Monaghan, & and to local landowner Barron Collier Companies.
The newspaper says: The law makes landowners, not registered voters, the ultimate authority in Ave Maria. The law ensures Monaghan and Barron Collier Cos., as the largest landowners, can control Ave Maria’s government forever.
Hmmmm. The legislature gave permanent control of the town to the wealthy businessman & a developer? Again. Hmmmm.
