Homosexuality Should be a Crime?

The debate over the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell has descended into a new low that I really believed we would never again see in our nation: A call to make homosexuality a crime.

Uganda is currently having that very discussion. The Ugandan bill under consideration there would make homosexual activities a crime of life imprisionment. But in America, we no longer believe such actions are criminal.

Until now.

Family Research Council's senior policy advocate, Peter Sprigg, participated in an interview with Chris Matthew's last week & said that no gays should be allowed to serve in the military. None. They can't serve. It should be a matter of policy that gays be barred from military service.

Then Sprigg said something so outlandish, so disturbing, that I almost couldn't believe he said it, until I remembered we are talking about James Dobson's Family Research Council. Sprigg said that
the US should criminalize homosexual activity.

Being gay should be a crime, according to the Family Research Council.

And Bryan Fischer, of the American Family Association, agreed, saying being gay costs money due to public health problems.

Question, Mr. Fischer: do not straight people give us a cost to public health too?

This is the problem with theocrats: they want to control every aspect of life of all people by putting their religious values onto everyone. We already fought this problem in Europe & in the New World. We decided in Colonial America that theocracy was a violation of basic liberty. We enshrined that principle of the Separation of Church & State in the First Amendment. Now, we see theocrats wanting to re-establish a Most Favored Status for one religion and impose it onto everyone.

Scary.

These folks are very scary. The sad thing is that there are so many who seem to go along with these outlandish ideas. Funny, gays have been serving the military for years, but, suddenly, morale is going to go down "if they are allowed to serve." I suppose this country will never get over its prejudices.

A crime to be gay, ok, yes that will cost more as we build more prisons to house all the gays, and of course pre-school gay conservation camps, then the ovens---if only all gay and bisexuals were green, me thinks many ___Family___orgs. would drop members like flies. And all those aiding and abetting friends and family...begin the jail building now.

Thanks for posting. I had missed this on Chris Matthews. Had no idea he got this out of them.

I am totally all for equality.. I think ones sexuality is something beyond a person's control. It is insane that this is even a topic of debate! How does a person's sexual preference make him a outcast?

So what if the person is Gay or lesbian, does that make them a worst person, or does that make their basic DNA different from the others... for heaven's sake, the way they discuss this, makes you feel like being Gay/Lesbian is a disease.... JEEZ...

Anyway.. I hear you and I totally don't get the reason for so much "hue and cry"

Indeed very scary. I worry about the economy, the environment and whether my steak is cooked perfectly. Now I have to worry about living in a theocracy. It's not just about gay people. It's about anyone who does not have the "correct" belief in the "only" god. The separation of church and state is narrowing and I think those who believe in the freedom the First Amendment gives us should be expounding our opinion every bit as loudly as those who would like to make this a christian nation. Now, should we allow a mosque in NYC? If we really believe in what the First Amendment promises, you're damned right it should be built.
